What is the NDIS, and how does it work?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government-funded program designed to provide support and services to people with disabilities. It helps participants with things like daily activities, social participation, mobility, therapy, and employment assistance.

Your NDIS plan provides funding for support services based on your individual needs and goals. At Care4Ever, we help you navigate your plan, choose the right support, and make the most of your funding.

How do I apply for NDIS funding?

To apply for the NDIS, follow these steps:

  • Check Eligibility: You must be under 65 years old and have a permanent condition affecting your daily life.
  • Make an Access Request: Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or complete an online form.
  • Provide Evidence: Submit reports from your doctor or specialists.
  • Plan Meeting: If approved, you’ll meet with an NDIS planner to create your support plan.
  • Start Using Your Plan: Once your plan is in place, we can help you organise your services.

Not sure where to start? Give us a call, and we’ll guide you through it.

What supports and services can the NDIS fund?

The NDIS funds a range of supports and services, including:

  • Daily personal activities.
  • Transport to enable participation in community, social, economic, and daily life activities.
  • Workplace help to allow a participant to successfully get or keep employment.
  • Therapeutic supports including behaviour support.
  • Help with household tasks.
  • Help by skilled personnel in aids or equipment assessment, set up, and training.
What is NDIS plan management?

NDIS plan management helps you manage the financial and administrative aspects of your NDIS plan. Your plan manager handles payments, budgeting, and financial reporting, so you can focus on your goals and supports without the hassle of paperwork.

Can I choose my own help mates under the NDIS?

Yes! The NDIS is designed to give you choice and control over your support. You can choose:

  • Which services you want.
  • Who provides your care.
  • When and how your supports are delivered.

At Care4Ever, we work closely with you to match you with the right help mates based on your needs and preferences.

What if my NDIS plan doesn’t cover everything I need?

If your NDIS plan doesn’t fully meet your needs, you may have options such as:

  • If your needs have changed, you can request a review to adjust your funding.
  • If there are gaps in your funding, you can access additional private care services.
  • Explore services covered by other government schemes like My Aged Care.
Is mental illness covered under the NDIS?

Yes. People with a psychosocial condition related to a mental health issue, (usually a severe and persistent mental illness) can access the NDIS as long as they meet the NDIS Access requirements. It is important to note that not everyone with a mental health issue will have a psychosocial condition.

Can I choose what’s funded in my plan?
Yes and no – while you have choice and control over how you use your NDIS funding, it must still be spent within NDIS guidelines.
  • You can choose which service providers you want to work with.
  • You can decide how you want your support to be delivered.
  • You can’t use NDIS funding for things that are not directly related to your condition.
The NDIS funds ‘reasonable and necessary’ supports that help you achieve your goals, increase independence, and improve your quality of life.
How much funding will I receive?

Funding for plans varies across participants, as each individual has unique needs and therefore requires different services and support.

What is the difference between government-funded aged care and private care?

Government-Funded Aged Care (My Aged Care) requires an assessment to determine your eligibility for subsidised home care or residential care. There may be waiting lists for some services.

Private Care (Fee-Based Care) is available immediately without the need for an assessment. You have full flexibility to choose the support you need.

Not sure which option is best for you? Give us a call – we’ll help you decide.

How quickly can private care services start?

Unlike government-funded care, private care is available immediately – no assessments or waiting lists. Whether you need one-off support, short-term help after surgery, or ongoing care, we can arrange services as soon as possible.

What does a Support Coordinator do?

A Support Coordinator is like your personal NDIS assistant. They help you:

  • Understand and manage your NDIS plan.
  • Find and connect with service providers.
  • Arrange appointments and handle paperwork.
  • Adjust services as your needs change.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your plan, our expert Support Coordinators can take the stress out of the process.

How do I change my service provider?

If you’re not happy with your current provider, you have the right to switch. At Care4Ever, we make the transition simple and stress-free.

  • Contact us, and we’ll guide you through the process.
  • We’ll help you cancel or transfer your existing services.
